It's little places like this that remind us what Italian food is supposed to taste like. A chain restaurant like Olive Garden simply doesn't compare. When you walk in the first thing you smell is ..fresh garlic! On many nights they have live music, and the patio will likely be full of Italian people dancing and having a good time. Another sign the food here is authentic as it gets. Aside from the many delicious pasta dishes on the menu, which you can usually customize..their pizza .. and I must mention the Stromboli, is hands down the best in Pompano. I've lived here for two years and have been to every Italian place around, and it's the only one getting five stars from me.

This has been and always will be our favorite spot for pizza, and that would be the Grandma's Pizza - square, of course. Can't live without it when we go to Florida! THE GARLIC ROLLS ARE EVERYTHING! As far as the other food here, the fish pastas are great like the calamari fradiablo and linguini with clams. I love the chicken francese and lasagna as well! All entrees come with a little salad, love their creamy italian dressing. Their marinara is pretty plain, and I'm a bit of a sauce snob because we make our own so I don't order that here. They do have dozens of options though and a great kids menu. Go for the grandmas pizza!

Stopping real quick for a pizza to go. I just love Joe's restaurant and always try to come here when I'm in the area I got a pizza with everything on it I guess you would call it too plain kind of like the person I'm with lol. We're taking it home for us to eat dad has his own dinner so everyone is set for the night.

I worked in a family Italian restaurant growing up and never found another place I liked as much...until now. Umbertos was great! I did take out but they have a great atmosphere inside and live music on certain nights. The gnocchi was fantastic and the price is good for the amount of food you get! I'll be back!

The wings were great! Pizza is very good. Not enough cheese for my taste, even ordering extra cheese but otherwise it was very good. GREAT staff! Great ambience and location. Highly recommend!

A traditional Italian joint. Food and service was fine, the décor is somewhat dated, but not objectionable. We started with the calamari appetizer, which was good. Lots of calamari, decent tomato dipping sauce. I had veal parm for my entrée, and it comes with a side salad (ok house dressing) and side of spaghetti (very small portion). The entrée was very large, so I took half of it home for the next night. It was good, lots of cheese and tomato sauce. Overall a nice experience, but there are plenty of other options in Ft. Lauderdale that are closer to me.

Uninspired Italian. Servers were very uninterested in our large party. Our one vegan guest was told that she couldn't have garlic rolls because they didn't know how to make them without cheese. Rolls were horrible anyway. Dishes were bland. The one good thing - my pasta that was served on the side of my dish was cooked perfectly al dente. Otherwise..... Blech.

I've gone here oodles of times, always had a good meal at a reasonable price though I've never had their Pizza. Why not? Well, it's simply been because their other menu foods and their daily specials, always updated and listed on a blackboard where you enter, are so darn good I've never given a thought to settling for a pizza even though it is their specialty. Instead I usually go for a good Caesar which they prepare with anchovies upon request, a simple spaghetti consisting of olive oil and garlic or the spaghetti with garlic, olive oil, fresh tomato and basil along with a main entrée of veal francaise . They also whip up some really good chicken marsala, chicken parmigiana, eggplant parmigiana and an eggplant rollatini plus, from the bar, they always serve a good drink or wines by the glass of full measure. The fact is that Umberto's is so much more than pizza restaurant. The best thing about this location of Umberto's is that it is particularly friendly with a casual warm inviting atmosphere about it. I've gone to their other Lauderdale location on Commercial, to which I only awarded Three Stars, and though it is somewhat more modern and up to date with décor, the food at this location seems to always taste better as well as a more comfortable atmosphere about it.

It's pizza. You can't get it wrong. Food was ok. Service is another question. Very blah. Not personable. No customer service skills at all. Not friendly. Last time I come here.

Grandma's Pizza square style with sauce on top. So good you will slap your grandma. Everything here is traditional and made the right way. It has some old school soul here, I love it.

Not good, pizza was just ok, coke was flat, surrounding people were loud and obnoxious, my daughters spaghetti and meatballs were gross. Won't go back

We orded from Umberto's while staying at the Royal Vista Wyndam Resort in Pompano Beach, FL based on the recommendation of the front desk. We ordered a medium Grandma's pizza (which the timeshare front desk staff raved about) and a Greek salad. According to their menu, Grandma's pizza is: (made the old fashion way) 'you must try it' made with fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella, garlic, fresh basil and oregano The pizza was absolutely awful. The crust was thin, bland and limp and had no taste. The sauce was almost non-existent and the entire pizza was cold. This was sincerely one of the worst pizzas I've ever had. The salad was decent. Oddly, it contained strips of bell peppers which I don't think is common in Greek salad, but was ok. The dressing was a very oiley and was just okay. The salad came with 3 garlic knots which were basically extremely garlic-y rolls. They were cold and the flavor of garlic was almost overwhelming. I like garlic so I thought they were alright, but other members of my party wouldn't finish them after a bite. Overall, the service was slow (took well over an hour when we were quoted 45 minutes), the food was cold and not that great. Later when driving around Pompano Beach, we saw that Umberto's was only about a mile from our hotel, so no idea why the pizza was so cold and took so long. It seemed slightly pricey, about $30 total, but not horrible. We will return to the Wyndam but will never touch Umberto's again.

i understand this is florida the home of bad pizza, this was my sixth bad pizza in a row the dough was raw and under cooked no char at all pure white crust, the tomato taste and looks like paste and the cheese is not fresh very sour tasting like old mozzarella starting to go bad. You have been warned... Never Again!

I've been to umberto's a few times in the last three years and I've always had a positive experience. Tonight the owner made a special seafood dish for us with mixed shellfish. It was excellent....Clams, mussels calamari all wrapped up in a very flavorful red sauce.....finger licking good at a very reasonable price....we also had the margherita pizza.....brick oven cooked crunchy and crisp on the bottom much like the original Neapolitan pizza....just the way it should be...and last but not least we had the calamari appetizer which was good but not the best I've had.....a little on the greasy side and a bit heavy....but overall a positive experience. The service was good. The specials always look great.....a good Italian restaurant choice with decent prices.

I am a self appointed pizza lover and coming from Southern California where there are plenty of amazing pizza joints I must say that Umberto's has probabaly the best pizza I've ever had. Yes it is a think crust but the sauce and fresh ingredients make this "grandma" pizza sooooo good my mouth wants to water thinking about it!!! I love their pizza and can't wait to fly across the country again just to have it :)

pizza is good.. but the service was very impolite, so even though would order a pizza, would not go back because of the atmosphere, ok for delivery only

Ordered delivery from umbertos. Delivery was fast, and the food was amazing! We ordered a medium cheese pizza (one of the best we've ever had) and penne alla vodka. Will definitely refer friends to this place. Really great food!!

Bleh. This place used to have reall solid food, but it has dropped off a cliff. Service - mediocre. Food - had the calamari to start - underseasoned, although tender, and the marinara was weak. Followed that with grandma's pizza, which was always solid here - it was doughy and overcooked with very little basil (that was cooked to all hell), and the sauce was lacking in use and flavor. My kids had the chicken nuggets & fries off the kids menu. The nuggets were little charcoal briquettes and horrible, while the fries were smoking hot (for kids, mind you) while still greasy and not salted at all (which is probably fine for kids). Had a class of house red, which was probably out of a large gallon jug, and horrific, yet $7 for a small portion. Granted, I wouldn't have drank it if they gave me more. Now, this was a Thursday night, during the 5-6pm dinner time. They weren't overly crowded, yet all of this. The prices weren't good for the portions, even if the food was good, which it wasn't. Very disappointed and won't be going back. It's a shame, as this used to be really solid. Avoid. There are a million solid Italian joints in Northeast Broward that blow this away. I think they count on churning tourists going over the bridge to the beach & area hotels.

If you are looking for a good New York style pizza this is not the place. After researching best pizza in Ft Lauderdale we picked this place because the reviews looked great. After my friend and I ate here I had to write a review myself because we were SO disappointed. We ordered the Grandmas Pizza.. Not like my Italian grandma... Nor any one I would want to be my grandma. It was like eating cardboard, very dry, hardly any cheese or sauce and no taste. The worst pizza I have ever eaten. The garlic rolls were like hockey pucks - hard and not flavorful. The Peroni beer was great and the service great as well. But if you are looking for a great pizza, keep searching, if you are looking for a good pizza keep searching .... This place is NOT for you.

Umberto's is a great little italian place. It hasyour typical off-the-boat-from-the-old-country rustique that is reflected in the food. Its not the fanciest of places, but to tell you the truth, up-scale Italian is a little oxymoronic considering most of the ingredients cost a dollar each. In fact, pasta and tomato sauce was a poor Italian man's food way back in the day, so to charge $20 nowadays just seems flat out absurb. Umberto's is solid on the pizza and antipasto front. The people are nice and table's are comfortable. I left happy....that's all I can say really.

Not bad at all. Enjoyed a nice sit-down dinner of pizza and antipasto salad. The garlic rolls were good and the pizza was decent. Not the best but would definitely go back if we were wanting a sit-down pizza dinner (non take out).

Awesome!!! They use the best mozzarella EVER...Grande Cheese! Just moved to Lighthouse Point and I tried a few places that were takeout because I had a bad experience once at Umbertos with a server, butI came back begging because the Pizza is the BEST around here. Since....I have eaten in the dining room and the service was great. Think I just had an isolated one-time bad experience! I take my pizza seriously and they make a great pie! The entree's that I've tried are great too! Oh yeah, don't forget the antipasto. Matt Cappiello Gordon Food Service

Good pizza for the price. Not too excited about their Mama or Grandma style pizza, although some people like it. Their brick oven pizza is very good and that is what I would suggest.

Umberto's in Pompano Beach shares one thing in common with Umberto's in Long Island: a name. Contrary to popular rumor, the various Umberto's locations in South Florida are not owned by the owners of the nationally known Long Island pizza shrine, but instead by a family member who really doesn't know how to make good pizza. The pizza here features cheese that tastes like enriched starch, and tomato sauce that might as well be red paste. I'd argue that even the local Domino's serves a better pie than Umberto's does. Both the cheese and fresh mozzarella slices were below Domino's quality, and even in South Florida, that's quite an accomplishment.

Outstanding pizza, Umberto's wood oven pizza is something special. It's worth making a drive for. NYC has nothing on Umberto's pizza. Cust is perfect!

The pizza isn't the only awesome thing Umberto's has to offer! I went tonight on my last night of vacation after a pained search looking for affordable casual dining. We took a cab there and walked in to the smell of disinfectant and maybe 3 or 4 old people gossiping over a pizza. I was a bit off put by the slow crowd for 6:30 on a sunday night, but once I opened the menu, I found a plethora of possibilities. We started off with the Hot Antipasto, which was pretty expensive for an appetizer, but the seafood combination and sauces on the plate made it more than worthwhile. I ordered mussels fra diavolo and my girlfriend ordered the shrimp scampi over fettucine. Mine was a grand slam. They loaded my plate with hot peppers, tomatoes, and at least 2 dozen perfectly steamed mussels with just enough sauce. My girlfriend had just enough shrimp and pasta, and was perfectly satisfying. For dessert, Coffee and Tiramisu. The coffee was fresh and perky, and the tiramisu was served classically and won our hearts

This place is FANTASTIC, hands down! We are staying at a hotel a few blocks away and have been, frankly, disappointed with the local fare.....until we tried Umberto's. We went on a Friday night and the place was packed with Italian speaking Italians which, in our opinion, spoke volumes about the food. The service is fast, friendly, and almost family-like. The pizza is delicious with thin, crisp, flaky crust with a little bit of airy bubbling on the edges! Sauce delicious! We got just the regular pizza. The real highlight is the garlic rolls! Unbelievably light, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside smothered with olive oil, garlic, Rosemary, oregano. Come just for these! They are with it! We loved it so much we went back the next night and got the same but added spaghetti and meatballs to the order. Spaghetti is delicious with lots of delicious sauce, pasta that isn't all wet so the sauce sticks perfectly, and the meatballs are huge and out of this world! Can't say enough good things about Umberto's! We are sorry to be going home tomorrow because we won't be near Umberto's!!!! Go now....then go again!

Only 4 stars because it's the first time I've been. And yes, there will be a next time! The manicotti was simply delicious! I closed my eyes as I tasted my first bite, and 'mmmmmm!' I enjoyed the salad with house creamy Italian dressing. The fresh tomatoes were tasty, and the garlic knots were very good also. Just a little too much garlic, but that's just me. Ah, yes, there will be a next time!
